The fact that they actually gave me bogus check information to “prove” I’d paid them floors me. They were just dying for me to release that domain lock.

I am amazed these people are still around. They have been doing this for a long time. Actually almost got me years ago with their bogus renewal mail. I still get them all the time… straight to the trash they go.

Unfortunately, too many people don’t have a clue people do this sort of thing and pay it because it looks and sounds so legitimate.

It’s people like this that make it tougher for those of us who are trying to do business online honestly.

I have to leave an update to my own entry. I had DROA contact me recently to tell me to unlock my domain so they could transfer it. The email said they had already received payment.

I immediately called my client to make sure they had not sent payment. They had not.

I wrote back to DROA and told them it wasn’t going to happen.

Then they wrote me another email telling me about some special deal I would be getting since I already paid them. Again, attempting to get me to unlock the domain. Because I’m a sucker for punishment and was curious how they would respond, I wrote them again and said “I have no record of a payment to you”.

I just got an email back with details of a check written to them (check number, address, company name, etc). They had mis-combined information from the domain registry public info. It was all wrong. They are going to great lengths to try to convince me I already paid so I’ll unlock that domain name.

Wow. I knew they were going to hell.
